"Winter"

Snowflakes are such pretty things

Among the things that winter brings;

Children can be seen to gather,

Chilly weather doesn't matter.

The sun comes out, and the snow packs easy,

Wind and temperatures make it breezy,

Rosy cheeks, a frost bitten finger

Still children hope the snow will linger.

A snow ball they begin to roll,

A big "snow-man" is their goal,

When at last he's really built,

They hold their breath he doesn't tilt!

They trim him with a carrot nose,

His mouth and eyes are coal that glows,

He wears a jacket, scarf, and hat

Can't close his jacket, he's too fat!

When an ice storm heads our way

And tree branches sparkle as they sway,

As God's sunshine radiates through,

What an iridescent hue!

But, roads and walks become dangerous,

Trips of distance become treacherous,

Snow-plows are all out doing their part

To clear the way for us to start.

When there's a mirror of ice underfoot,

And they spread salt, ashes, and soot,

when "Careful now," I hear them shout,

I'm glad I'm on the inside looking out!
